Legendary West Coast group ZION I have always been at the forefront for their nonconformist style of hip-hop. With that being said their new video for the song "Kali Yuga" captures the eclectic spirit of the rap veterans to the fullest.
Emcee Zumbi effortlessly paints verbal pictures that grip the ears and minds. He takes the listener along a journey of self-discovery while scaling hurdles along the way. For the visuals, ZION I teamed up with director Joseph Buckley Campbell and his team January Sixth Production who help bring the stand out track to life with stunning visual aesthetics. The video itself starts off with Zumbi dressed in white west African regalia as he walks towards the camera to an unknown destination. As the screen expands, he is ultimately joined by a myriad of characters ranging from horn players, black cowboys and a masked freestyle dancer. It is aesthetically pleasing but Zumbi explains further that the concept behind it is the personification of the different energies accumulated by an individual as they go through this thing called life.
“Kali Yuga” is taken from their 2018 LP, Ritual Mystik and the video is in promotion of their new summer tour, The Underground Railroad Tour, with rappers Equipto, Vocab Slick and DJ True Justice.
