The first week of April has seen its share of some amazing new releases, defiantly making champions out of artists rather than fools. But if there is one release that has stood out the most, it has to be Hot Chip's newest single, "Hungry Child." The veteran British electronic group know that their fans have been salivating for new material since their last LP in 2015, and this infectious house track is the equivalent of a Michelin 5-star rated meal after a full month of fasting. And they didn't just stop there. For dessert, they also threw in a cleverly entertaining music video, directed by Saman Kesh and starring Silicon Valley favourite Martin Starr and This Is Us star Milana Vayntrub.
Chuckle-worthy millennial references aside, the one thing that this video failed to do is let "Hungry Child" speak for itself. It doesn't need a funny storyline or a cinematic production, and it most definitely does not need two professional actors talking over it. When the song is in fact heard, you find that it is nuanced, dimensional, and undeniably addictive. It is an incredibly alive house production with a persistent bass line and jubilant keys that are just calling you out to the dance floor. And it deserves to be the star of its own music video.
