It's a jittery, rapturous time as Black Girl / White Girl unveil their newest three-track EP Twilight Zone. Favourites of the Relief camp, the Curaçaoan/Israeli DJ and production duo offer no disappointments with their compilation of infectious dancefloor cuts—the tracks having racked up plenty of club play over the last few months.
As though entering a distorted new world, Twilight Zone embodies the disconnected, out-of-body experience, wholly unique in its production styling. "Chem Cut" first brings out the experience with its catchy vocal samples, carefully intertwined around booming drums and crafty analog glitches for a sultry, otherworldly feel. A thumping cut bordering on big-room techno with a twist, "Reflexions" plays up rugged percussions for a groovy response. With unexpected bleeps dispersed throughout, the alluring diva vocals and dusky textures only prove to highlight the uniqueness of the track. Finally, "Body Snatchers" wraps up Twilight Zone with a more retro-futuristic taste. The duo expertly strip the beat down for a comparably classic sound, elevating the track with a heavy percussive beat and sci-fi inspired synths. Singular vocal chops come together flawlessly to invoke a powerful mood, helping ground Black Girl / White Girl in the ever-changing dance scene.
