The Italian duo SANTII is back with their second single and accompanying video for their song “WHAT?” from their forthcoming sophomore album. The longtime friends and collaborators Miki Ducci and Alex Degli Angioli bring together their wealth of diverse experiences in film scoring, project branding, and magazine collaboration for a sprawling video for the bubbly track.
The visuals for “WHAT?” were shot and edited by Ducci and Degli Angioli themselves and seem to represent life according to SANTII. With quick cuts and a mix of fantastical elements, footage from their live shows, and other candid shots, the end product is a wide-ranging depiction of the human experience. As SANTII describes it, “The idea was to create a personal and honest feel… like a Facetime call to every person watching.” Anyone watching will know what they mean, as the video offers an incredibly personal touch, as well as some 90s video game effects thrown in for good measure.
Musically, “WHAT?” employs some tried and true composition and production techniques from the world of pop for a celebratory musical experience. With a simple yet essential drum beat and plucky pitched percussion, “WHAT?” feels undeniably upbeat. Combined with the eclectic video, the song is just a fun time.
SANTII’s second album SO2 will be released January 18, 2019.
