It is always refreshing when we stumble on indie artists who stray from the usual every now and then. Our newest find is a 17-year-old rapper, singer/songwriter who goes by the moniker My Friend Shawn. The Miami, FL based act shares with us a new single "L.O.V.E" where he takes some ample time to talk about the concept of love from his own unique perspective.
Thematically the record is a slow jam that takes the listener through a myriad of emotions and feelings and would most likely think twice about love in a general sense. He doesn't bore you with the usual or any personal experiences but rather leaves an open-ended question for everyone. He also sounds at home over the soulful, lo-fi soundscape provided by Darius Renfroe (Nique Music) as he switches back and forth from rapping to singing.
"L.O.V.E" is taken from his upcoming mixtape 'Sorry, I Got Caught Up With A Girl'. A collection of songs about love and how love can distract you from attaininng your true goals. He also has plans to release a video for "L.O.V.E" later next year.
