Alex Somers, has an incredible background as a visual artist, producer, film composer and frequent collaborator of Sigur Rós, recently scoring an episode of the TV show Black Mirror, together with Sigur Rós' singer Jónsi.
Somers puts a completely new perspective on the original "Atlas, Eyes". Through a veil of noisy ambient soundscapes; the rework feels spooky and otherworldly. Somers' footprint is characteristic of the swathes of shoegaze aesthetics that seem to come so brilliantly from Iceland. However, the musician keeps the essential warm and peaceful character of the original song by Illuminine and Will Samson. The video, which was made by Stijn Hüwels, also perfectly supports this mood. It takes us out on a night walk on empty cobblestone streets, with sequences of shimmering water and shadows which evoke a spectral but warm and calm feeling – in doing so reflecting the song itself.
