In honor of J Dilla’s birthday, Seattle producer Samurai Del has linked up with Writegroove to drop his latest track, “Eyes Closed (For Dilla).”
As is the case for many an artist out today, Dilla was a huge inspiration for Del and his musical career. “He was an integral part for me finding my sound, & I owe him a lot for that. I've always wanted to pay homage on Dilla day & this year I finally made it happen. RIP Jay Dee, gone but not forgotten.”
“Eyes Closed (For Dilla)” is Del’s first original track of 2018 and hopefully a sign we will hear more from the producer soon. The Seattle resident has stayed relatively quiet since releasing a masterful remix of Goldlink’s “Meditation” last May. However, any release from Del is a bright spot in your SoundCloud feed, and “Eyes Closed (For Dilla) is no different. With the help of Minneapolis’ Writegroove, “Eyes Closed (For Dilla)” is a warm, melodious track that envelopes the listener in a lush blanket of vocals, synths, and snaps.
