Joshua KYEOT brings us back to the schoolyard with "playground sweethearts"

A few months have gone by since we’ve heard from South London crooner Joshua KYEOT. Today, however, the UK-born singer is back with his latest track, “playground sweethearts.”

As the name suggests, “playground sweethearts” centers around a schoolyard crush from way back when. KYEOT says that it's about a boy who had a thing for a girl as a kid, but never made a move. Now older, he regrets his passiveness and is finally going to do something about it.

“Playground sweethearts” starts simple enough, with just a simple guitar riff strumming along as KYEOT sings the first few bars. As the percussions come in, KYEOT dives deeper into his relationship with this old flame. He even admits to “putting on a show” to his friends so they wouldn’t know. Classic preschool move right there.

It’s hard to put KYEOT and his latest single in a specific genre box. Though his SoundCloud considers it “R&B and Soul,” “playground sweethearts” feels more than those two labels. Perhaps it’s the lighthearted content; perhaps it’s the bright guitar plucking along that makes “playground sweethearts” feel sunnier than any R&B song and sweeter than any Soul track. Whatever the reason, “playground sweethearts,” is a fun and warm tune that is sure to put a smile on your face.

Press play on “playground sweethearts” above and be sure to keep it locked right here on EARMILK for all things Joshua KYEOT.
