With a kicked back synthy house vibe and lighthearted lyrics, VenessaMichaels hits a jaunty mark on "Good Love" (feat Effy), premiering today with EARMILK. While I was originally drawn like a moth to the flame to the cotton candy vaporwave album artwork, it's the track's dancey sound design like a delightful gut punch of pure sunshine that stuck with me. "Good Love" is the San Diego-born, LA-based producer's first original in a year, and the carefree earworm is worth the wait. Venessa shares production duties with Olmos, alongside vocals from Effy who previously appeared on the artist's 2016 track "Really Like."
Venessa refers to her genre as "2090," which is an homage to the sounds of her youth in the 90s (Destiny’s Child, No Doubt, Timbaland) that inspired her career hustle and shape her current-day compositions. It's truly modern pop music at its core, a forward-thinking adaptation of throwback hip-hop and pop tradition, infused with forward-thinking future electronic beats. The young creator has been on the grind since a young age, even holding club residences in her hometown of San Diego at age 18, and whilst in college studying at the University of California Santa Cruz. Inspired by spunky Jersey club and Baltimore club traditions, Venessa's breezy compositions are a welcome reprieve from the heaviness of the world today. Keep an eye on this burgeoning talent as she continues to bring positivity to the airwaves.
