Maddie North and her signature So Below goth pop is back for a new single called “Close.” Bringing layers of swirling synths, energetic beats, and altered vocals, the New Zealand native continues to deliver these enchanting and haunting tracks that instantly please. Even though there’s an overall chill and introspective production style to this track, it still manages to bring a sense of comfort or uplifting warmth when you listen.
Written in LA along with artist Chelsea Jade and Sam McCarthy of Boyboy, the track was inspired by the environment around them. Perhaps that explains why this track sounds a little warmer and upbeat in a way. North says the track is about “moving on and finding space from the bad relationships in your life.” It definitely gives a good feel to saying goodbye.
