Shungudzo Kuyimba is a Zimbabwean poet who was accepted to Stanford University at the age of fifteen. She was academically brilliant, but chose instead to stick it out and pursue music. She has released a surefire hit in "Long Live the Billionaire" as of this morning.
Written from the perspective of a child in a war-torn country speaking to a soldier in the street, "Long Live the Billionaire" is a special kind of protest song. Rife with lush imagery, Shun's wavering but powerful voice calls "Soldier on the road, did they promise you gold?" The pop-infused track also incorporates a bluesy guitar, and is a wonderfully stark contrast to what we're hearing in charts at the moment.
