For the latest installment of his weekly Contract Thursdays, DAP The Contract releases a powerful and poignant new video titled “Free.”
Directed by DAP and Rekhalala, “Free” brings the awful racism and violence that has littered the US in recent years front and center with a handful of live clips stitched together. After nearly two minutes of spliced clips, the beat comes in, and we find DAP rapping on the other side of a wire fence.
As “Free” moves along, the visuals switch off from focusing on DAP to other notably horrific and all too common scenes in America. What’s more, every time the scene switches, DAP’s vocals switch with it. While facing the camera behind the fence, his vocals are front and center, but as soon as the scene shifts, his vocals are put in the background as if his verse is providing news commentary of each and every scene.
With “Free,” DAP has once again proved he is a talent to watch. This isn’t some generic song or video, but instead, a well thought out and executed idea that not only bumps but brings to a light a message that everyone needs to understand.
