Bella McKendree started writing songs and playing piano at eleven years old, in the English countryside. Today, EARMILK has the privilege of introducing her to the world with her ethereal debut EP Waiting.
With soulful guitar and dreamy pop programming, Bella McKendree is going to make waves in the years to come. A definite standout on the EP, "Baby Let's Fall" offers up McKendree's unbelievably pure vocals. She sits somewhere between Lana Del Rey and Kacy Hill, her voice accompanying emotive lyrics in a pop sound which maintains its rawness. Speaking of her forthcoming single (and another highlight) from the EP, "Grieve", McKendree says:
In this song, I’ve laid out my heart, truly transparent about my own experience of loss. The reality is that sometimes you have to confront that dark place so I didn’t sugar coat the truth. It is the most vulnerable record I’ve written.
And indeed, sonically, the vocal and drums are strong while the piano adds a quiet delicacy to the piece. Lyrically, Waiting is rich and vibrant. McKendree grew up with four siblings. She was a shy child and music was an escape for her. She says she sings "for something bigger than myself, a reason beyond what I see. I guess every artist needs something to draw from – and that’s my well.”
