Tuelo have released their culturally versatile Saint Margaret EP exclusively on our site today. Fronted by South African born singer Tuelo Minah who balances a great deal of dualities in her life, having grown up in a traditional Setswana household. She has herself dubbed what she does as "revival music," and it is a delicate balance of soul with punk rock sensibilities.
The Setswana influence is clear on this one, and our favorite track, "Zero," is musically and lyrically alive with South African culture. The song flows as though it was a traditional prayer chant, played in modern venues. Tuelo have been gaining a fast following in the New York scene, with performances at the Brooklyn Bowl, Carnegie Hall, Late Night with David Letterman, Central Park Summer Stage and the Africa Now festival at the Apollo.
