It’s always nice to see labels bring artists together to collaborate for the first time on new releases, as LA’s own Perfect Driver is doing this week with Marc Spence & GAWP. With Marc Spence’s previous releases on the likes of OWSLA and This Ain’t Bristol and GAWPS’s own releases on DIRTYBIRD and Perfect Driver, it’s no wonder that label head Matthew Anthony enlisted them for their first two-track EP together, Trains, out tomorrow July 28th on Perfect Driver.

[soundcloud url="https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/333944679" params="auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false&visual=true" width="100%" height="450" iframe="true" /]

Marc Spence & GAWP set the tone of the lead track “Packin” with that characteristic Perfect Driver bouncy beat and a crisp percussion that borders on militaristic. Soon enough, the track drops into a funk-forward groove that somehow manages to balance its heady dark low-end with its lighter escalating hi-end runs. Marc Spence & GAWP are able to meld the competing light and the dark with such precision that the track never loses its bite nor its signature groove.

This is definitely one collaboration and EP you won’t want to miss. Pick up your copy when it drops tomorrow on Perfect Driver.
