Devin Xo takes us back to the good old days with "Saturday Morning Cartoons"

There’s something about Hip Hop and Cartoons; they seem to go together so well. For whatever reason, many a rapper has made an ode to everyone’s favorite childhood pastime, and today we add one more to that list. For your listening pleasure, feast your ears on “Saturday Morning Cartoons” by Devin Xo, the first single off of his upcoming album, Coming of Age.

What separates Devin from other’s who have rhymed about cartoons is his attention to detail. While Murs may have checked off all the classic shows of our youth, Devin instead focuses on details surrounding us, the kids. “Gameboy Advanced clutched in my right hand” he raps on the chorus. It’s insights like this that transport you back to childhood more than just the content of the shows.

More than just the lyrics, Devin makes the beat work for him as well on “Saturday Morning Cartoons.” The track has this warm cruising feel to it, like a weekend drive up the coast that immediately puts you in a good mood. It’s comforting, in a way, and helps drive the nostalgic angle of the song home.

As we’ve seen time and time again, Devin has a knack for relating to his audience. His ability to shine a light on subtle details makes every song easy to connect with, and “Saturday Morning Cartoons” is no different.

Give “Saturday Morning Cartoons” a listen above, and be sure to stay locked on EARMILK for all things dope music. As for me, I’m going to go searching for my old glacier Gameboy Advanced and Pokemon Yellow
