Jaja Bu has come out of the gates swinging with his debut single, “Sweetness,” although this certainly isn't his first rodeo. Starting out his musical life as a drummer at age 7, Jaja's rhythmic background clearly bleeds through into his productions. "Sweetness" is a rhythmic masterpiece with pristine percussion and superior swing. This in combination with mesmerizing vocals, guitar tones inspired by Smashing Pumpkins and Hall and Oates, and a blend of analog synths make for a unique alternative R&B sound.
Although gentle sounding, the lyrics navigate his emotions, walking the line between lust and genuine feelings for someone. Simultaneously, the song touches upon the idea that people meet in life for various reasons and learn to appreciate their time together for what it's worth. This message hinges on the lyric, “Life’s a lonely road, people come and people go, but you're a precious stone that I’m glad I got to know.”
Jaja Bu's single introduces him to the world as an artist who has a clear personal vision for his art, isn't afraid of vulnerability, and places no restrictions on himself or his creativity.
