Mr. Lif and Akrobatik have been bending letters, syllables, time, and space to their will since Y2K. Along with DJ Fakts One, The Perceptionists trio made up one of the many talents on the Def Jux roster. These two came together last year on Mr. Lif’s first solo record in seven years, Don’t Look Down. When Lif and Ak went from trading bars to trading phonemes, “Mission Accomplished” became the obvious album standout. It’s been a hot minute since their acclaimed 2005 record, Black Dialogue, but the bruiser emcees are finally ready to deliver a follow-up record on July 28th titled Resolution.

Lead single “Hose Down” is everything you’d want from a single, especially from two hip-hop OGs. The rhythmic pulse of this cut meshes mean-mugging with an infectious bounce that both Lif and Akrobatik skate over. Their chemistry is undeniable and the serious subject matter —civil rights past and present— is delivered with ease, without overburdening the track. Syne provides a sticky and grooving hook. Mr. Lif and Ak get it right: ‘you don’t wanna miss a good thing,’ with this single.
