Following the 2016 release of their EP Ltd, Toronto-based four piece Blajk come back with a moody new single to both prepare you for sun-soaked barbecues and cause you to have a serious think about life. For "Gunshot", indie rock instrumentation is marinated in an electronic treatment. It's an expansion of the sound on their previous EP, and the sonic growth is fitting with the "Gunshot" lyrics. The band says of the song:
The gunshot symbolizes an epiphany, an unavoidable realization that where you are may not be the healthiest place for you. It takes you out of a moment, pairing you with a grounding force that helps you wade through the murkiness of uncertainty and the hardships of staying true to yourself. There's a fair amount of personal growth that comes from this.
If the trajectory of the band is anything to go on thus far, we are in for a treat when it comes time for them to release a debut album. In the meantime, look out for Blajk at NXNE in Toronto on the 24th of June and check "Gunshot" out on Spotify.
