When talking about American cities with a rich musical legacy, very few come anywhere close to that of New Orleans, Louisiana. Universally accepted as the birthplace of Jazz music, NOLA has consistently spawned some of the most renowned and innovative African American artists, collectives, and genres of earlier & more recent times, including Louis Armstrong, Allen Toussaint, No Limit Records, Frank Ocean, Cash Money/Young Money Records, Jay Electronica, Curren$y, Big Freida, and many many more.
Growing up within this city's rich musical tradition, rapper Jabbar is looking to carve his own lane in 2017 with his long awaited sophomore project, the New Orleans EP. The follow-up to his underrated 2015 effort, the Out on Bond EP, this 5-track projects is a highly personal glimpse into New Orleans' grittier side with Jabbar providing slick wordplay over gloomy instrumentals provided by Snubnose Frankenstein, Steez Fox, COMPLX, & more. Jabbar has always been an exemplary rapper, but his songwriting has gotten razor-sharp on this release as he verbally sets up whole crime scenes and recalls vivid memories of having to do whatever necessary to survive.
