Bassnectar, the brainchild of San Francisco-based Lorin Ashton, has teamed up with ATLiens, the masked duo hailing from (you guessed it) Atlanta, on a new track titled “Interlock.” The rumbling bass-driven trap collaboration was released as a one-off on Skrillex’s OWSLA imprint, marking a first for both acts.
If it sounds familiar, it’s because Ashton first premiered “Interlock” on Insomniac’s Night Owl Radio back in September, along with some of his own remixes. Coming shortly after his edit of Buku’s “Front to Back,” the new collab apparently marks just the beginning of a slew of new releases from Bassnectar.
The timing of the release was pretty clutch: it gave Bassheads who need a bit more time to save up for Bass Center X (or just can’t make it this year) a lively distraction from potential FOMO. For members of the Bassnectar family who already snagged their tickets to the Return to the Mothership, the track just makes it that much easier to plan to blast off like never before.
Speaking of which, the 10th edition of Lorin’s own multi-day party is going down this Labor Day Weekend at the Hampton Coliseum in Hampton, VA. In addition to three nights in a row of headlining sets from Bassnecter himself, the festival-of-sorts will feature Dan Deacon, Mr. Carmack, Cashmere Cat, CloZee, Bleep Bloop, Tsuruda, Shlump, Son of Kick, and CharlesTheFirst.
