Today, English experimental producer Darren J. Cunningham announced that he will be resurrecting his esteemed Actress alias with a whole new album entitled AZD (pronounced Azid), that is slated to be released on April 14th via Ninja Tune. He also revealed the album's stunning cover art, inspiration (which spans from James Hampton, Rammellzee, Jung's Shadow Theory, and the Death Star), and the lead single with accompanying video.
The abstract Dan Emmerson visual features a fashion-forward welder as he wanders through a number of futuristic, visually striking locales filled with model-esque natives. The song itself is more of the minimal, deconstructed techno that we've come to expect & love from the enigmatic producer.
According to the press release, Cunningham is also planning to debut a whole new immersive live show also entitled AZD at the Convergence Village Underground on March 24th, and claims that:
“ (It) will be a test frame for linking circuits using various forms of language — Midi globalised language, Lyrical language, Tikal Graffiti code and various other Synthesiser language — to create one intelligent musical instrument called AZD, if successful it will produce the first translucent, non-soluble communication sound pill synergised through impressionistic interpretations of technological equipment. This is the music vitamin of the Metropolis.”
