For those of us who believe in ideas like equality and human rights, these are particularly trying times. While we all have our personal battles to face, it's nice to know that our musicians are also engaging with the same difficulties in this world. Steve Smith, one half of the pioneering U.K. house duo Dirty Vegas, is clearly one of those musicians. Having just completed a 37 date tour as the support for UK legend Glenn Tilbrook, Smith has now released a new video for his single, "My Favourite Shoes." And as you already know, EARMILK has the premiere just for you.
With it's delicate, pulsing rhythms, the song is some of Smith's best work to date, perfect for those low-key nights spent lost in your headphones. But perhaps more importantly, the video itself is a message for acceptance of all our basic human rights. As Smith said,
"The song was written after I saw the way the music community came out in denouncing [North Carolina's] ruling against transgender rights to choose bathrooms. The message is freedom to be who ever you are….”
Messages like this are now more important than ever. So check out the video above, and check the links below for more info.
