Sony’s Relentless Records most recent sign is a unique artist hailing from Manchester named Tom Walker. Today he has released a soul clenching, bone gripping, indie-melodic-rock tune titled, "Play Dead".

The track immediately starts with a full bodied flavor. Tom effortlessly threads his vocals through expanding synths and a riff of a guitar, with his vocals becoming progressively stronger up until the chorus when they absolutely combust with power. In the beginning of the track, his tone reminded me of a hybrid of two artists – Chet Faker x Maverick Sabre. Towards the chorus, his vocals become completely his own. The rasp in his tone is reminiscent of the most musical of grizzly bears. Behind his roaring vocals lies a plethora of instruments – rhythmic drums, quiet harmonies, air chimes, analog synths & ringing bells. Remember that song "Last Request" by Paolo Nutini? You're probably like what happened to him & that beautiful rasp he had in his vibrato? Right? Well this is his long lost brother. Your welcome for connecting the two.
Tom Walker has branded a soulful signature infused with some indie-rock – this artist is on my list of those to watch this year, and he should be on yours too.
