It just so happens that when dj Artur and Batish decided to get together on a new project in late 2015, their names lent unusually well to combining. Forming ARTBAT, they’ve used their Eastern European backgrounds as well as their unique experiences in electronic music to form a new point of view, incorporating progressive, techno and minimal into their style. Their first successful endeavor got them quick attention, specifically from the label to which they were subsequently signed, Definition:Music. And today, we have a glimpse into their sophomore debut on the imprint, an EP entitled Chivvy / Momentum.
The first track, “Chivvy” starts out in an unusual, almost rock and roll-inspired industrial style. As it develops, some experimental techno elements surface, with a latent melody laced into bass synths. Capping off the track’s deep elements is a spoken vocal, wrapping this one up into a nice little bow for the underground music lover.
