Swoon are Simon Balthazar (Fanfarlo) and King Knut, two Scandinavian musicians that conceived their latest project as an “anything-goes studio” duo – according to the press release. For Swoon, “anything-goes” has manifested as dance-driven krautrock with plenty of disco sensibilities. They sit near the intersection of art rock, disco, and post-punk, and they sound like the hypothetical lovechild of James Murphy and David Byrne.
The band released their first single, “Heatwave,” on February 19, and today EARMILK is premiering its accompanying video. The seven-minute clip features redirected footage from 1984 film, The Philadelphia Experiment—which is based on an alleged invisibility experiment conducted by the US Navy in the ‘40s. Essentially, the invisibility mechanism goes haywire, two guys get sent 40 years in the future, and there are a bunch of dance sequences and colorful vortexes—all in the crispest video effects that 1984 had to offer.
