Consistency breeds success in regards to grasping the attention of new music seekers and On Planets has surpassed that notion, executing originality with every release. In the span of just two months, the Vancouver-based producer has released two hot remixes of both Pegboard Nerds' "Emoji" and Drake's "Headlines". The young producer, also known as Sean Wharton, flaunts a mesmerizing SoundCloud page. In his remixes featured, it is clear he challenges the limitations set by genres to create an ironically natural electronic sound.
Following his breezy remix of a Drake classic, On Planets has unveiled his first original track "Brief Pause," exposing an unexpectedly vulnerable timbre. His last remix of "Headlines" was a light and fun track which possessed a colorful spectrum of sounds reflective of chill West Coast vibes. "Brief Pause" retains that essence of West Coast in a different manner, hinting at the more sombre and grey winters of Vancouver.
"Brief Pause" is the first ever track to feature Wharton's voice, which speaks in earnest and imposes an authentic tug at the rawest of emotions. The track begins with peculiar background noise consisting of clicks and ambience that gradually glows throughout the track. The crackling textures and subtle drum work build a climactic tension in the track, which references our most undefined emotions. Referencing these feelings, Wharton states that it is about "…when self-reflection provokes the turbulent mixture of cold longing and bitter regret with the warmth of loving memories.". The intermittence in Wharton's voice towards the end of the track provokes a bittersweet tone and a sense of reminiscence. "Brief Pause" does a solid job of reimagining electronic music, interweaving bright song-writing tactics and use of uncommon sounds to create for a refreshingly organic track.
