It’s official: Grammy-nominated artist,producer and DJ Mat Zo has officially announced the details behind his sophomore album. After teasing with “album rejects” released for free download around the new year, Zo has announced “Soul Food” as the first single release from the forthcoming album, Self Assemble. Following the critically acclaimed 2013 release Damage Control, Self Assemble will be released March 25th, 2016 via Zo’s own label Mad Zoo.
“Soul Food” is the perfect representation of Mat Zo’s ability to draw from multiple genres, old and new, to create something that’s just plain lovable. Groovy, funky and infectious, “Soul Food” takes us on a journey through the lighthearted and the heavy, from hip hop to Daft Punk, all in one thoroughly thought out track. So well-thought out in fact, that an instrumental presence is dynamic enough to make us forget that there isn’t a leading vocal taking us through the single – it’s not needed.
