Jessy Lanza announces new album 'Oh No,' shares video for "It Means I Love You"

Fatima Al Qadiri announced Brute, her return to acclaimed UK imprint Hyperdub, last week. The big news continues for the label this week, with the return of Canadian singer and producer Jessy Lanza and her sophomore full length, Oh No. Lanza made a big impression on her debut, Pull My Hair Back, an inventive merger between R&B and forward-thinking club music. Next came a collaboration with fellow Canadian Caribou, followed by some bonding with members of Hyperdub-affiliated crew Teklife on the "You Never Show Your Love" single.

Lanza's most important collaborator, however, is Jeremy Greenspan of Junior Boys.  He contributed substantially on her debut album, and apparently that trend continues on Oh No.  We'll have to wait until May 13 to hear their latest results, but for now you can stream the video for "It Means I Love You," a lively dance-pop track that's full of surprises.  Check out the full album tracklist, as well as spring tour dates with Junior Boys, below.

Oh No:

  1. New Ogi
  2. VV Violence
  3. Never Enough
  4. I Talk BB
  5. Going Somewhere
  6. It Means I Love You

I received my degree in English from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, and Virginia is still home. Apart from my yearly pilgrimage to Moogfest and occasional shows in DC, Detroit, and New York, I like to stick to the fringes, with an eye always open toward music that is forward-thinking and unique, whatever the genre.
