It wasn't long ago that Amber Giles had first met Sonny Moore, aka Skrillex in a spontaneous early morning back to back set at Bonnaroo. Fast forward a year and a bit and the spunky Phoenix based producer, who performs under the moniker, Mija, has toured the world alongside the OWSLA crew with several remixes and festival sets under her belt. Mija's first original track was in collaboration with LA-based Ghastly, whom she had met at a warehouse rave in 2008. The track, "Crank It" features Lil Jon and was instantly hyped as a party hit with it's fun vibes and heavy to the ear synths.
Mija began as a DJ, only focusing on her production skills recently since her integration in the electronic world. Recently in the scene there have been talks for a happy hardcore come back and Mija has made it clear in several interviews of her love for the genre. Pioneers of hardcore, Darren Styles and Gammer have just dropped their remix of Porter Robinson's "Sad Machine", reigniting happy hardcore's flame in the modern electronic world.
Mija also decided to place her mark in this potential comeback with her version of Darren Styles, "Come Running". The original is slowed down in the intro to create for a more climatic drop. The dreaminess of the track is followed by the original melodic bassline and synths, sans the quickened pace and pulsing bass which hardcore is notorious for. Mija's take on the track is seemingly just the beginning of the rework of the genre, adding subtle touches of today's future synths. The producer embarks on her North American tour "sick af v.2" in Las Vegas on Feb 4th. Check out her new remix below.
