New Haven, Connecticut's Child Actor made waves with last year's excellent Never Die LP, along with the duo's ongoing collaborations with Blue Sky Black Death. Comprised of Max Heath and Natalie Plaza, the twosome crafts a type of electronic pop that is equal parts catchy and ethereal, a Chvrches-esque vocal style over liquid mercury production. Now Max Heath is venturing out for his first solo effort under the name Circadion, giving us his self-titled debut LP available for free today through Fake Four Records.
Heath does contribute some vocals for Child Actor, but in a backing role, so Circadion gives his voice a chance at the spotlight. On lead single "The Saddest Song," swooning synths and garbled vocal samples provide the foundation for Heath's heartbreaking lamentations. The song starts with the line "I wrote the saddest song I could, and nothing happened," but by the end he's just repeating "It's all my fault" over and over, clearly having reached the catharsis he was looking for.
