Seven Lions isn't necessarily someone a name you would immediately associate with tech trance. But, the California producer is someone that frequently works to break down genre barriers, focusing on empowering his music through production and melody. This week, he's broken down another barrier and released a track on Who's Afraid of 138!?, a division of Armada Music focused on showcasing higher BPM, uplifting or high energy trance music. "Cusp" is a track whose energy hits hard, and is clearly a creative experiment and exploration gone right. At first, we get tones of old school trance from the days when Tiesto and Armin van Buuren ruled one of dance's music's only reigning genres, but then quickly turns into a swirl of electro and even hip hop. I had such a great time making this track, it was always intended to be a an epic dance floor song. In my sets I play a lot of different genres, Trance/Progressive/Psy/Trap, so I wanted to make something that took the best of all those worlds and smash it into something really energetic and trippy. I never really intended on releasing it and was only going to keep it for my sets because its such a weird song but the response over the last year has been so great and a lot of you asked for it so here it is.
