The last we saw UK electronic trio Disciples, they were dipping their toes into the pop music pool with a collaboration with Calvin Harris on "How Deep Is Your Love." But it's only a few months later and the guys have returned on their usual mainstay of BBC Radio 1 to release new music. This past Friday Disciples unveiled their latest work on not only one show but three shows, with the channel's biggest names, Annie Mac, Pete Tong and Danny Howard, getting a first play of "Mastermind." A return to the stripped down deep house we know from the guys, "Mastermind" has a simple groovy bassline whose influence feels a bit Latin and word music, and whose tune from the bass guitar we just can't get out of our heads. This is a little less dark than what we've seen from them on tracks like "We Don't Know," and it's a welcome update to their sound that proves how simplicity can be really impactful when done just right.
Along with the announcement of the single's debut, Disciples announced "Mastermind" will be flanked by two more tracks on an EP entitled The Following. Due out in October via Pete Tong's FFRR, the EP is set to show us more experimentation that the guys have been working on over the past few months.
You can download Mastermind via iTunes ahead of the full EP release on October 24th.
