Not so long ago, a new UK vocalist entered the music scene going by the name ASHA. Hailing from Croydon, a town London south of London, she's used her city upbringing to inform her intriguing brand of gritty, soulful R&B and pop. ASHA immediately caught our attention when made a big a big, well-branded entry into the world with a powerful first single "We Can Do This." And now, she's onto her second single, "Chapters," which has proved an equally, if not more enthralling look into her raw vocals.
ASHA comes from an interesting background, starting out as a street dance teacher, and it's easy to hear how that has translated into her fervent songwriting and vocals as she captures us in a way that Lauryn Hill did on her Miseducation of Lauryn Hill album. This week ASHA has unveiled a video for "Chapters," and it really puts a visual to her cut-through-the-bullshit approach to the arts. Directed by Emma Dalzell, the video takes a real look into the state of the modern relationship.
