As a writer who listens to music pretty much all day every day, it's truly a shock when you come across a piece that stops you in your tracks. That's what happened when I first listened to Nashville-based trio BASECAMP's latest EP, Greater Than.
The most enthralling thing about BASECAMP's work is the ability for us as listeners to feel the synergy with which the members of the Nashville-based group work. It becomes obvious within a seconds that these guys are all on the same page in making their music, and most likely, can finish each other's sentences in real life. In each of the six tracks on the EP, we get deeper into the relationship between the group's always surprising, but well-branded electronica, and the way each element is paired differently each time with the sensual, at times melancholy alt-R&B vocals. In all, Greater Than defines the ultra modern minimalism that is on the horizon for this kind of deep electronica. And as something that the group claims was the result of experimentation, it should be a sign to continue on pushing themselves.

BASECAMP was recently signed to another electronic label really spreading its wings into more downtempo music, and it's clear that OWSLA made a good choice in bringing them in.
