After a string of successful mixtapes and the release of a plethora of loosies for fans, Kembe X has truly come into his own. One of the leading members of The Village collective, X has been in the game and making a buzz in the scene for quite sometime – already collaborating with big names like Isaiah Rashad, Ab-Soul, Chance The Rapper, and Alex Wiley. However, on his latest track,"What I'm Doin," the Chicago MC wants to make it clear that he can do this solo, without needing a co-sign or forcing himself to shift to other's expectations.
"What I'm Doin" features Kembe X rapping with one of the toughest flows in his arsenal. While he is dismantling the Opi Tayler production with passionate bars about not being held back and striving for greatness, his delivery is almost effortless. He is basically gliding over the track, nonchalantly dropping knowledge and speaking truth. While there are times where his youthful anxieties do show (like his take on Instagram thirst trap), for the most part he does speak to the "not giving a f**k" attitude that is a staple of a lot of successful people.
Kembe X continues to grow as lyrical technician, and his progression has been rapid. "What I'm Doin" signals a stronger, in your face Kembe, one that is going to be well appreciated as it develops. Check out the track above.
