Berkeley rapper, 100s, dropped two sincerely lauded EPs, Ice Cold Perm (2012) and IVRY (2014), but then just disappeared. He gave us a taste of his pimp-funk alter ego, and fans went mad for it—he had the potential to take this career seriously far. Yet, this did not seem like the way he wanted to do it.
He dropped the act, and, in 2015, he reemerged as Kossisko, with the single, “This May Be Me.” Although Kossisko proposes an entirely different sound from that of the beloved 100s, this type of experimentation seems to result in reflecting a more percipient image of himself and his intentions.
As Kossisko begins to embrace this, he presents us with two new songs in self directed-edited music videos. “Own Me,” is along the moody lines of his first single, but with the blissfully melancholic style of synths like Shlohmo. Then, he shows off his cheeky, playful side with “Jealousy,” think Gorillaz meets Talking Heads. Watch the videos below and check out his jiggy dance moves.
