After emerging on the scene with her debut album, Pull My Hair Back, two years ago, Jessy Lanza has stayed active, including a collaboration and tour with Caribou. She's now one of the most prominent of Hyperdub's new faces, a generation whose role so far has largely been to tie the label's murky dubstep and garage to other parts of the dance world. Lanza's reserved demeanor and stunning voice make her a perfect fit for the label, and one of its most pop-leaning artists to date.
Recently, Lanza released a new single, "You Never Show Your Love," a smoldering R&B track produced by DJ Spinn and Taso, two of Hyperdub's footwork-centered Teklife crew. They tone it down here, keeping the b.p.m. slow, just providing a nice atmospheric platform for Jessy to croon over. Below, check out the brand new music video, where Lanza stands straight-faced between two wacky-inflatable-arm-flailing-tube-men-thingies, until she can't help but join them in their hypnotic dance.
