A brand new artist has surfaced with a stylish sound—call it “retrofuturism” if you will—that has never been more appropriate for today’s audiences. Nude is a promising 22-year-old from France, and Moose Records was the one to grab the rookie, releasing his debut EP No Air.
To start, we have the title track, which is an astounding rework of Jordin Spark’s “No Air.” Nude took this cheesy hit that I previously had no appetite for, then layered it with depth and a bassline that is undeniably bumpin’. The second song, “Work Me” is probably my favorite. Those sexy guitar riffs are sure to get the ladies moving some type of way. “Give It Up” continues the slow-burning fun, and to finish off, we have “I Need You,” featuring Moose Records founder Andrea, lulling us in heavy, cosmic reverberations.
No Air provides us with that soulful essence to fill those voids, yet in an effortless manner that puts you at delightful ease. Nude’s self-proclaimed genre of “Soulskate” says it all.
