R&B producer super duo BenZel (consisting of Benny Blanco and Two Inch Punch) have performed production magic again, transforming Jai Paul's brisk, excellent, Bollywood-inspired "Str8 Outta Mumbai" into a slow, sexy, bedroom burner. The new remix comes on the heels BenZel's 2014 debut EP Men, which brought together artists like Cashmere Cat, Stevie Neale, Ryn Weaver and even Juicy J under one roof to concoct four unstoppable, infectious Hip-Hop- and R&B-infused pop tracks. BenZel's work in 2014 also included primary production credit's on Jessie Ware's acclaimed sophomore album Tough Love.
On their "Str8 Outta Mumbai" remix, BenZel slows things down using a mellow piano melody in the backdrop and layered vocals, sometimes sampled, that have Jai Paul sounding like a PC Music chipmunk and Darth Vader at the same time. The duo holds onto the original track's chorus melody but uses synthesizers and drum machine to make it slow and sexy rather than frantic and dance-y. The track closes with the original's opening as a man clearly excited about Jai Paul's tunes doesn't quite get his name right. There's no word yet on when new Jai Paul music will drop (maybe this remix is a sign of forthcoming work?), but BenZel is expected to release their debut album this summer. We can't wait to hear it.
