Portland-based producer, Electric Mantis, wowed the music community when he put out “Flips And Flops, Drips And Drops” about a year ago—it was extraordinarily unusual. Wyatt [Electric Mantis] has been pretty quiet this year, and that’s because he’s been cooking up his debut Braincase EP. To give you a taste of what’s to come, he dropped “Infatuation,” a song that provokes exactly as titled.
About 40 seconds in, we reach the alleged “drop.” It’s not your typically hard and generic rhythm, and that’s what makes it refreshing and enticing. Instead, Wyatt sets off this powerful wave of expanding synths, infused with stutters, zips, clicks, and glitches.
In today’s ADD reality, listeners tend to skip intros and producers lean towards barely 2-minute beats. However, Wyatt manages to lock you in for almost 4 minutes. This is aural aviation, all aboard.
