Sam Gellaitry owns this remix of The Prodigy's "No Good"

One name that has exploded within the second half of this year is Sam Gellaitry. After dropping “bruh”—the best sampling of Danny Brown I’ve ever heard—his name grew to be a ubiquitous presence among the music community. I can’t think of any other 17-year-old who boasts 40K followers on Soundcloud, and receives the kind of respect from established producers, and admiration from rookies, like he does.

Gellaitry’s latest work remixes breakbeat pioneers, The Prodigy, and samples their 90’s hit “No Good.” What is worth mentioning, and applauding, is that whenever Gellaitry takes on a sample, he makes it completely his own. Too often do producers nowadays proudly put out a remix that is only distinguished from the original by a few hi-hats or bass kicks. Whether it’s shaking it up with trap, house, or even disco influences, Gellaitry always owns it. Perhaps, he’s cheekily referencing this authority and clout with this hook here, “You’re no good for me, I don’t need nobody. Don’t need no one, that’s no good for me.” Nah, he just seems to be having fun, doing what he loves, and we’re reaping the benefits. Keep it (Sammy) G, guys.

The Scottish boy genius has been taken in as Soulection’s protégé, and is coming out with his debut EP Short Stories early next year.
