Originally from Utah and now residing in LA, Sego are a duo who have their sights set on producing forward-minded experimental rock that will run circles through your head. While some may call them untraditional, their genuine sound is exactly what makes them stand out. They build their spontaneous, refreshing sound by relying on easy-going vocals to carry wholesome soundscapes into hook-filled grooves. With their Wicked Youth EP due out next week via Kitsuné, Sego have released "False Currency".
Built around an instrumental core of a catchy guitar lick, punching drum beat and horn section, "False Currency" keeps its momentum flowing throughout. Even while the instrumentals may at times seem sporadic, upon diving in it is clear that every element is used to the songs advantage. Not only do they highlight the songs ability to change in mood as it moves in and out of its break, but they also keeps anything from going stale. In all, "False Currency" leaves us eagerly awaiting what Sego has in store for us come the release of their EP next week and even more so further down the line.
