When it comes to the genre of pop, I'm a pretty critical guy due to how generic pop can be these days. With that said, it takes a really talented pop act to really blow me away. Recently, I came across one of the most uniquely talented pop acts I have ever listened to, and to go even further, one of the best musical acts in general that I've heard recently. The act is a New York-based alternative pop band that goes by the name of Episode. Episode members consists of Daniel Lonner, Eric Sherman, Scott Jacobson, and Brett Schneider, each of whom bring their own repertoire of skills and sound to the band. Although Episode is made up of only four members, on their debut EP Hold On, which consists of four tracks as well, the group draws on the talents of a variety of New York acts to make one of the best collective EP's of this year.
My favorite track on the tape, which is also the track that all of my friends love as well, is "Hold On"— a mystifying track with a radio-ready hook. The track features Stefan Weiner who lays down his elegant and soothing vocals over a relaxed break beat that is accentuated by twinkling bells. All these elements combine to make a sensational track that is so good it will send shivers down your spine. Another hit off the EP is "Light," which features songstresses Kiah Victoria and DA of Shinobi Ninja. Unlike "Hold On," "Light" is a more poppy and electric song that contains all the attributes of a Top 40 hit.
