This is my first write up on a remix of Brandy, and I'm a bit surprised none have crossed my path in the past. Perhaps it takes great skill to create a legitimate version of your own, and that's why many feel nervous about approaching the wildly popular pop singer. Under the circumstances, a DC native once again makes it into my directory defying my philosophy. His name is Chooky, and his Brandy remix is a fun track to say the least.
"I Wanna Be Down" is a slow jam hit from 1994, one I wouldn't expect to be transformed into a fast paced trap track. The tempo isn't the only factor flipped inside out. I challenge any reader to play the original in the same environment you would Chooky's version, and vice versa. If it doesn't feel out of place you've got your musical habitats criss-crossed.
Nonsense aside, Chooky is a hip-hop influenced producer with a crush on pop. He calls this release a "chipmunked-out" edit with a flare of R&B to stimulate the soul. He goes on to say he's been an avid Brandy fan and "couldn't help himself" to a little fun with the acapella.
