Not all electronic music coming out of Sweden goes directly to the massive electro/progressive sets that dominate the dance industry, a fact reinforced by an up-and-coming duo from Umeå known as Gidge. Made up of Jonatan Nilsson and Ludvig Stolterman, the pair will be releasing their debut album, Autumn Bells, which officially drops September 23rd on Atomnation. Spanning nine tracks, each with some tie to the forested Scandinavian countryside, the work demonstrates Gidge's methodic dedication to the craft and bridges the gap between earthly and otherworldly sounds.
Today's premiere, "Norrland", fittingly rounds off the entire album, ending the release with a grand finale that calls the listener into another plane of existence. From the horn sounding across the track's start, backed up by warm static of a playing record, the song unravels slowly, piece-by-piece, a contemplative work that blends instrumentality with electronic production in serene splendor. While "Norrland" definitely imparts a sense of finality, the mysterious piano line that closes the track eludes to more from the talented Swedish duo, Gidge.
