We haven't heard from Ghostly International producer Gold Panda since last year's excellent LP Half of Where You Live, a smorgasbord of multicultural sounds inspired by his travels to South America, Asia, and Berlin, where he's been living as of late. He broke his silence today, releasing the funky little MPC sketch "Clarke's Dream" as a free download.
Starting with a bare, quirky drum combination, the track slowly unfolds into a tapestry of layered samples, all orbiting around a central jazzy loop. While it doesn't necessarily sound like something that would go on an official Gold Panda release, it's nice to see him try something different. Hardly a prolific producer, this may be all we'll hear from him for a while, although if you live in California or Europe you can catch him live this fall. Track and tour dates are below.
