I'm going to start off by saying that I've heard enough terrible remixes of older generation tracks to usually dislike the idea of listening to a remix track of iconic legends like Aretha Franklin or Michael Jackson or Marvin Gaye. They usually come out half-assed and not even half as likeable as the original, so to me they're almost guaranteed disappointment. (For the record, there are plenty of actual good remixes in the ocean of the horrible, so I'm not trying to be disrespectful in any way, I just am generalizing for the purpose of this post.)
Based on this previous information, you can see why I tend to dislike remixes of this nature, but when I got a chance to premiere a track from one of my favorite groups from the UK right now, I pretty much couldn't say no, especially when the remix is as perfect as it is. "Mercy" utilizes Gaye's magnetic soul but uses it to add a dynamic to their song, not just throw it in some shoddy sample to boost play count. Where most fail, the trio nails it by keeping a sunset-ty vibe to the track that utilizes Marvin Gaye superbly.
This is undeniably perfect for this summer and it has been playing constantly since the minute I heard it.
