New track “Broken Bones” off of the Monstercat label featuring Cassandra Kay on vocals from Sydney based producer PIXL came to me from out of the blue yesterday, hit me on the head like a ton of bricks and floored me with it’s beauty and constant clicking beat. On this one, we have a rarity of deeply emotional but not “emo” EDM in a 127 beats per minute range that pushes the track through quickly but manages to slow down enough to evoke genuine feeling. The soul-filled yet slightly rasping vocals seem to come from a woman with a shattered heart who does not fight, but simply accepts the messy state that she is in, coupled with nearly flawless electronic production. As I listened I felt her waiting for someone who would never come and even if he did most likely not in the way that she needed him to. And that waiting is always the worst but when that state of acknowledgment is reached she’ll stop holding on and it will flow over as smoothly as the song written for it.
