I hold the utmost love and respect for the pure, unadulterated drum n’ bass sound since I cut my teeth on it, dancing until dawn in the secret NYC scenes. To date, it is still my favorite party atmosphere and it takes over the body in a way that other EDM genres can sometimes fall short. As I listened, I could feel what I used to in Brooklyn when we’d take a car down for the night and enter a warehouse or the former drum n’ bass club Studio B out in Greenpoint. Your body could be on the verge of collapse, and yet this track would keep it moving, building up slowly until the epic drops begin. You’ll twist your arms into wave motions, until the beat really begins to pound and you can bring out the footwork, a sort of stylized back and forth that dissolve into jumping jacks. It is hard to believe that “Breakdown” was originally released by Noisestorm 2 years ago on the Vancouver based Monstercat label as a dubstep anthem since it has transferred so seamlessly into drum n’ bass. To show the advances he’s made, Eoin O’Broin has remade the track into something that both old and new school EDM heads would love to dance to.
